As a child, "The Fourth" was known throughout the country as the victim of one of the most notorious cases of abuse in Detroit's Department of Children and Families. As an adult, he's violent, often irrational, self-destructive, smart, and a father. One night after a football game, he leaves his daughter, Sofia, in the car as he goes into a bar, fights, and is arrested. As The Fourth is taken from the scene by the cops, his daughter is taken from the back of his car by Ed, The Fourth's victim, who happens to work at her school. He brings Sofia to his ex-girlfriend's home, needing help and hoping that Sofia can represent healing for their past shared tragedy. Ed learns that raising a girl, and a kidnapped girl at that, is not about his own personal redemption.
