A young girl has been severally abused by her mother, for many years, and sometimes by her big brother as well. She has a stuffed horse, named Horsie, who she imagines and actually believes is alive, and can telepathically communicate with her and no one else. Her brother takes her to the hospital when she's close to death in child labor. After she's put to sleep for an emergency C-section, he tells the truth and admits that he’s responsible for her pregnancy, even though he knows that she really loves him and this means he won’t be able to be there for her. She survives but is terrified. She has to learn how to trust the people who are trying to help her, not be afraid all of the time, coop with what has happened to her, and live.
