My Mother’s Keeper is about Shelia Newton, a successful insurance salesperson who works for one of the most prestigious companies in the industry, and built a career that many can only dream of. However, her life takes a drastic turn when she is let go from her position due to missing her sales quota. To make matters worse, her husband, Terrance, files for divorce, throwing her life into disarray. Despite her shock and despair, Shelia remains determined to pick up the pieces and start anew.

Shelia unexpectedly encounters D’Shamar Jackson, a feisty and sharp-tongued young homeless woman who has just left a foster home after being kicked out. D’Shamar begs Shelia to pretend to be her guardian to help her locate her birth certificate. Although initially hesitant, Shelia reluctantly agrees to assist. Yet, her world is turned upside down when she receives some interesting information, the girl she is helping is none other than her very own daughter, who was given up for adoption twenty years ago.

Shelia takes D’Shamar in, providing her with a place to stay. However, she decides to keep the truth hidden from her. As they live together, Shelia gradually tries to learn about D’Shamar’s interests, hobbies, and preferences. Unfortunately, Terrance discovers the truth about their secret daughter, leading him to permanently leave their marriage.
